It can be difficult to know if your home requires a sewer camera inspection, especially when there are no obvious reasons to schedule one. At the same time, you don’t want to be surprised when an underground pipe breaks and causes major damage to your property. Curt & Jerry Sewer Service has conducted expert sewer camera inspections across Greenwood for decades. Beyond known issues with sewer lines, your home may require a sewer camera inspection under these three circumstances.
The lateral sewer connection is where your home’s sewer line meets the city’s main sewer line. When this lateral connection spans a large distance between your house and the street, there’s great potential for a lot of underground movement. Over time, soil settles along the sewer line and causes pipes to belly or be offset. A belly is a low pipe section blocked with water and debris, and an offset pipe occurs when one pipe section disconnects from another.
Old, massive trees with deep roots can cause pipes to break, especially clay pipes. If you have large trees in your yard, a sewer camera inspection can discover any damage caused by tree roots. Before you call Curt & Jerry Sewer Service for a sewer camera inspection, find out where your sewer system connects with the city’s system. If there are no trees in that area, it’s unlikely that tree roots are infiltrating your sewer line.
The type of soil your home is built on can greatly impact your sewer line. Indiana contains three types of soil: clay, sand, and loam. Clay soil is an expansive soil. When wet, it expands considerably; when it’s dry, it shrinks more than other soil types. If you have clay soil under your home, these extreme changes can cause significant damage to the sewer line.
