Bathtub & Shower Drains

3 Common Problems That Lead to Clogged Shower Drains

Do you deal with slow or clogged shower drains in your Indianapolis home? Sometimes there’s nothing more frustrating than a backed-up drain. Having to wait until the water goes down before the next person can shower can mess with schedules and cause not-so-friendly mornings at home. At Curt & Jerry Sewer Service, we assist a multitude of individuals and families by cleaning out their shower and bathtub drains. If you often have to clear out your shower drain, check to see if any of these common problems are causing the issue.

1. Hard Water

If you live with hard water, you are already familiar with some of the issues that come alongside this mineral-filled H2O. Not only can hard water dry out your skin and stain bathtubs, sinks, and toilet bowls, but it can also be the culprit of a clogged shower drain. Hard water leaves behind mineral deposits within the shower drain that can clog it, resulting in a call to a drain cleaning professional.

2. Soap Scum

We’re all familiar with soap scum build-up in our showers and bathtubs. Residue from body soap, shampoo, conditioner, bubble baths, and other products can also accumulate and build up within the drain itself. There’s really no way to avoid this from happening as soap is an essential part of cleaning our bodies. When blockages do occur, call a professional drain cleaner. They have the right equipment and products to easily clean out your messy shower drain.

3. Mop Water

When you’re finished mopping the kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room, do you pour the dirty water down the shower or bathtub drain? If so, you may be inadvertently clogging up the shower. Debris, hair, food, and more are often found in dirty mop water. When you pour this down the drain, all of that waste collects inside and may require drain snaking or more advanced measures.
